During the program portion of our recent 55th year graduation reunion, Ellen Kaylor Toronto presented a tribute to honor and remember deceased classmates. In Ellen's words............"In the course of my life I have found few people who have been the equal of my classmates of the KHS class of 1963. They are a distinguished group of individuals-people of courage and integrity; talent and competence; kindness and compassion. Some have been stars-super novae who have graced the heavens with their flair and genius. Others have been quiet background figures who nevertheless have contributed to the unique identify of our class and who have gone on to live lives of purpose, accomplishment, and charity for those around them.
All this is true of those who are present and those we have lost and I am honored to be asked to speak at their memorial service. Before I read their names I want to light a candle-a unity candle-that symbolizes our class. Then I am going to light a single candle that represents each individual who is gone from our presence. The interesting thing about a candle flame is that when you light it, it has a particular shape. Then when you put two or more together, they burn high and bright. Take them apart and the candle still retains its shape. Thus it is with our class. Each of us is an individual with a singular personality and yet, together, we create a marvelous flame that gives us our unique identity as the class of '63.
As we remember our classmates, we recall the exceptional contribution that each has made to the character of our class and to the betterment of the world.
Here I will read the names of the classmates.
Conclusion:
"When They shall die,
Take them and cut them out in little stars,
And they will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will fall in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."
Romeo and Juliet
Let us conclude with a moment of silence for our classmates." The tribute concluded with the themed musical selection of "How Great Thou Art" sung by Connie Beasley, accompanied by her husband Dave.
